Peaceful Playgrounds at McKinley Elementary
August, 2008

YCEA members from McKinley elementary worked with neighborhood students to create an outdoor oasis in August, 2008.  The "Peaceful Playgrounds" program was used to help staff members make their playground into a fun and educational space.  Photos are below, and the story was covered in the local news media.  Kudos to the staff and students for working together to make their playground a great place for kids!

Bell Family Shelter Holiday Donations
December, 2007

York City Education Association members banded together to gather donations of essential items for families in need this holiday season.  Teachers and support staff from all of the district's schools donated personal hygiene items, blankets, mittens, paper goods, and cash donations to Bell Family Shelter, an organization that assists families in need throughout the year.

Amy Wolfgang's Explorer was stuffed full of treats for Bell Family Shelter clients, thanks to the generosity of YCEA members from all over the York City School District.

Greg Wolfgang carries donations into the shelter.

Bell staffer Jen Strine gratefully accepted YCEA's donations.  We filled their office full of donated items!
Our Daily Bread
YCEA volunteers Julia Kuipers, Ali Keller, Sue Keller, Amy Wolfgang, and Greg Wolfgang served breakfast at Our Daily Bread in York on Friday, May 23.  Our Daily Bread, located within the York City School District at 331 South George Street, provides free meals to members of the community who are in need of assistance.  YCEA also provided donated items- cereals, napkins, hot sauce, salt, and sugar- to help fill their pantry.

We will definitely be working at Our Daily Bread in the future; check back often for updates on future community service opportinities like this one!
