Crispus Attucks Christmas Toy Drive December, 2010
YCEA members donated several hundred dollars' worth of toys, games, books, and puzzles to the toy drive sponsored by Board Member Gary Calhoun, which benefitted city children.
Ronald McDonald House Fundraiser February, 2009
PSEA's Southern Region sponsored a fundraising effort to assist the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey, PA. YCEA far surpassed its goal of raising $1,000 for this worthy cause, as we raised over $5000 with the help of the noninstructional staff in the district. Way to go!
York County Food Bank Holiday Donations December, 2008
York
City Education Association members gathered and donated 19 boxes of nonperishable food items to the York County Food Bank. Thanks to all who donated! Your generosity made a difference for local families in need this holiday season.
Peaceful Playgrounds at McKinley Elementary August, 2008 YCEA
members from McKinley elementary worked with neighborhood students to
create an outdoor oasis in August, 2008. The "Peaceful Playgrounds"
program was used to help staff members make their playground into a fun
and educational space. Photos are below, and the story was covered in
the local news media. Kudos to the staff and students for working together to make their playground a great place for kids!



Bell Family Shelter Holiday Donations December, 2007
York City Education Association members banded together to gather donations of essential items for families in need this holiday season. Teachers and support staff from all of the district's schools donated personal hygiene items, blankets, mittens, paper goods, and cash donations to Bell Family Shelter, an organization that assists families in need throughout the year.
Amy Wolfgang's Explorer was stuffed full of treats for Bell Family Shelter clients, thanks to the generosity of YCEA members from all over the York City School District. Greg Wolfgang carries donations into the shelter. Bell staffer Jen Strine gratefully accepted YCEA's donations. We filled their office full of donated items!

YCEA volunteers Julia Kuipers, Ali Keller, Sue Keller, Amy Wolfgang, and Greg Wolfgang served breakfast at Our Daily Bread in York on Friday, May 23. Our Daily Bread, located within the York City School District at 331 South George Street, provides free meals to members of the community who are in need of assistance. YCEA also provided donated items- cereals, napkins, hot sauce, salt, and sugar- to help fill their pantry.
We will definitely be working at Our Daily Bread in the future; check back often for updates on future community service opportinities like this one!
